BOOKSMITH CONSERVATION

1st Edition, Lady Chatterly's Lover:  The spine and two corners were missing the paper binding.  Heavyweight Japanese paper was toned to match the binding and then used to cover the corners and construct a new spine piece.

Religious Denominations of the World: The spine was torn but most of the pieces were still intact.  A new piece of cloth was selected that closely matched the original green and a new spine was made and the original spine adhered on top.

The Panama Canal:  This volume had damage from heat, soot and smoke from a fire.  The text block was removed from the cover and the edges were cleaned with a smoke sponge; sooty pages were cleaned with Magic Rub eraser crumbs.  New endsheets of Rives heavyweight paper were added.  Aerocotton was toned with acrylics to match the original cover.  The cover was reconstructed from the original front board and new spine and back board.  Original cloth from the spine and front cover was saved and re-adhered to the newly conserved binding.
