1735 Primer, Before Treatment

1735 Primer:  This manuscript was written in 1735 and had been severely damaged by mice in 1867 (as stated in an inscription).  The first six pages had 1/2 to 3/4 of the pages missing and all the remaining 22 pages had portions of the fore-edge missing.  The cover was deteriorated beyond repair, but retained separately for the owner.  The manuscript was first surface cleaned with Staedtler Mars eraser crumbs, then washed.  Losses were filled with linen paper from Griffen Mill toned with acrylics to match some of the mid-tones of the older paper.  Finally, the manuscript was re-sewn into a new cover of Barrett handmade paper.
